Vivekananda Convent High School was started in the year 1983 under the ageis of Sree Vivekananda Educational Society to extend holistic education for the poorer sections of the society in Bharatanagar Colony, Moosapet, where a number of slums exist. Over the years, boys and girls from these hut dwellers, BPL homes, orphanages, daily labour class families and factory labour homes were admitted with free education, in some cases concessions were given, even though a very low fee structure was fixed. Presently about 300 such children are being taken care in the School. Another 200 children are being rounded up for enrollment during this academic year through counseling the families, refraining the children from child labour and other vagabond activities.
The uniqueness of this educational endeavour is that India is going through a sea change in the educational system where the quality of children and their education is being focussed upon. The important areas of contention are life skills, vocational training and independent creative thinking for personal growth and the development of the nation, keeping in view the global scenario by the year 2020. These children whom we are training are found to be very active, responsible, eager to learn and application of all that is learnt, in day to day life situations, education or sports. Their advantage is that they are not addicted to the television, or internet or cell phone chattings and instead they are down to earth, practical living and busy doing something or other rather than whiling away their time. They learn quickly with experience and also play sports and games very well with a lot of enthusiasm.
As part of our education system we provide computers as tools for learning, Montessori materials for early education under the supervision of AMI trained Montessori Director, Ladder System as designed by the internationally acknowledged Rishi Valley School of Madanapalle, Chittoor District of AP for upgrading the academics of the students, and we follow the NCERT and SCERT syllabus and their guidelines. Teaching learning methods are activity based and more of learning through experience. All the staff and students practice Anapana Meditation and Vipassana. Regular health camps and checkups are organised. Various workshops such as clay ganeshas, wood carvings, environmental issues, dance and music, etc by NGO’s are conducted frequently. Institutions such as Jawahar Bal Bhavan, Goethe Zentrum – German Cultural Center, Vipassana Center, WWF, NGC, Nature Cure Ashram, etc support us in the development of various extra curricular activities.
We incur an annual expenditure of Rs. 15,000/- per child towards tuition fees, books, stationery & uniform plus About Rs. 5000/- for local transportation. We are also contempalting to provide nutritious and balanced food and snacks for the children along with hygiene and cleaniliness activities such as brushing teeth, hair maintenance and bathing and washing, by providing related products, amounting to approx Rs.5000/- per annum. A total of Rs. 25,000/- per child is being provided by us for his/her overall development for life.
We look up to philanthrophists, friends and well wishers who share our joy in grooming these children for the better future of us all. All donations are accepted in cash or cheque or draft drawn on Hyderabad in favour of ‘Sree Vivekananda Educational Society’ and are exempted under Sec 80G of Income Tax.
